Welcome to our 11 Questions series where we ask random Storm Cloud clients 11 questions that dive deep into the core of who they really are. We love Scott’s creative answers. Please enjoy:

Meet Scott!

Scott Clayton is the Executive Director of Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity. When Scott isn’t helping to improve the living situations for Veterans and those in need of housing assistance he enjoys spending time taking in the outdoors on walks, indulging in a good hearty meal, and every now and then getting caught in the rain. Scott is also an avid Kansas City Royals fan and tries to make it to Kansas City to catch games as often as he can.

What brought you to Storm Cloud Marketing?

I have a long history of working together with Storm, so long that I’m not quite sure how it started. I enjoyed working with Dustin and his former partner at their beginning with Storm Stanley back in the day. Storm helps us with our video production as well as executing our advertising campaigns.

If you could have lunch with one celebrity, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I would have to say, Jesus, The Second Person of the Trinity, eternal, left heaven’s glory and took on human flesh becoming the Son of Man. So yeah, Jesus for sure.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without and why?

All we really need to live is water, food, and shelter—if it's an item that I really like to use and would have a hard time not having, probably the smartphone. I thought of putting in a more profound answer here, but Nah, that’ll do.

What is one piece of advice you would give someone who is interested in pursuing a career in your field?

This really goes with life in general, there are only two things you can control: how hard you work and how you treat other people.

Who is your favorite Storm team member? Why? (We won’t tell!)

Probably Dustin. He has the same sense of humor as me and you never know where it might go. Everyone on the team really is great.

What song is currently on repeat for you?

Currently, I have been listening to Cat Stevens ‘Wild World’ and some Tenacious D.

What are you most looking forward to for your business in the coming year?

Doing more every day. I’m really proud of how hard everyone works at Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity and how everyone is working together for one purpose—to make sure that we are productive and a quality source for families to have an opportunity to work and improve their living conditions with a new home, to make significant repairs for homeowners in need, and to find great deals in our ever-improving ReStore. We are building in different ways—ICF, duplex, and rehab. I’m looking forward to us expanding on that.

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to and why?

The California coast is nice, driving through Kentucky is as well, New York State is enjoyable too. However, Kauffman Stadium where the Royals play is my favorite place.

What are your top 3 favorite movies

  1. Donnie Darko
  2. Shadowlands
  3. Stranger than Fiction
  4. Godfather II
  5. Tombstone

That’s 5 instead of 3…but they are all great.

What is the most important lesson you have learned at your job/business?

Keep it simple, work hard, and have fun, if it’s possible. And sometimes situations can be vast. Break it down to make it simple. What’s the situation and how can we work together to get closer to solving it, or at least making continual progress. Every day is about working together to help make things better than they were before.

Who has been the most influential person in your career and why?

I’ve had some good bosses in my jobs before Habitat, of those I think my dad, John Clayton, and Steve Squires helped me get going early in my work life. My gramma for inspiration towards what I wanted to be.
